The flow injection analyzer of Zhaolun Fang

Fang designed and produced the first FIA analyzer in China - a knockdown LZ-1000 flow injection analyzer in cooperation with a film mirrors factory. Due its flexibility and reliability, this home-made instrument became widely applied for the analysis of real life samples and thus promoted further development of FIA. Fang founded the "Zhao-Fa Auto-analysis Institute" which designed and manufactured FIA instruments and accessories, leading to the vigorous development of FIA instrument industry in China. In 1992, the automated flow injection analyzers were made by the institute, including programmed full automated FIA-2000 analyzer and the FIA-1200 which was mainly used for flow injection hydride generation AAS. These instruments had the sales of more than 150 units in the domestic market and exported abroad, greatly promoting development of flow injection analysis technology. Consequently, at the International Conference on Analytical Chemistry held in Changchun in 1994, Fang won the first "Haiguang" Analysis Chemistry Prize.
